a thousand thousand

teardrops fallin’ on a toadstool in the rain
one drop makes it smaller
and one drop makes it larger
but they can’t take away the pain
as the bombs fall from the sky
and a girl’s life goes up in flames
and a thousand thousand people watch
on the evening news
and a thousand thousand people’ve lost
some things they didn’t know they had to loose
and in the cities far far away
from the scene of the unfolding pre-scripted play
people watch with fake tears
and drown their troubles in weak beers
and a thousand thousand people
are out there livin’ lies
and on thousands of thousands of beautiful nights
that’s when they cry
for the thousand dreams gone up
in smoke this second gone by
and ten thousand more laying alone
where people walked away and just headed home
and a thousand thousand people live
never really alive
and a thousand thousand people could breathe
and not brush the wings of a flutterby
but when you people have to cry
never forget to look towards the sky
there’s a thousand thousand hopes in this world
and a thousand ways to bring them home
and take the bombs right from the skies
and take the tears right from their eyes
of the thousand thousand people who died
and never wondered why?
tears fall down on toadstools in the rain
